As fans of the Native requested a larger option, Spyderco began developing the Native Chief—a lengthened version designed to offer extended blade reach and a comfortable grip for larger hands. Spyderco gathered detailed feedback from trade shows and customer forums to refine the design. With the release of the Native 5’s advanced lockback mechanism, engineered to handle the added leverage and strength required by the extended Native Chief, the long-awaited design was brought to life.

The Native Chief preserves the slim, pocket-friendly form of the Native while stretching its blade length to just over four inches. Equipped with a full-flat ground CPM-SPY27 blade, a high-performance cobalt-enriched stainless steel developed with Crucible Industries, this knife balances razor-edge sharpness, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Its distinctive cobalt-blue G10 handle offers a secure grip, while threaded inserts allow for a four-position pocket clip setup, supporting both left- and right-handed carry.
